Mr. Cortez has extensive experience in both the private and public sectors. He is currently President /Chief Information Officer of CIOpro, an advanced technology consulting business, and has more than thirty years of IT experience. Served as Chief Information Officer for the State of California and served as Cabinet Secretary over Information Technology and was a key member of the Governor?s Cabinet. He directed the highly successful State Y2k project and reduced State Technology project failures to zero for four years. He directed an IT yearly budget of $2.2 billion and over 5,000 Technology professionals and support staff. He worked closely with the Governor and Legislative Leaders to enact legislation to aggressively advance the use of technology to improve government services, commonly known as E-Government. For his efforts, Mr. Cortez received a commendation by the State Senate. Mr. Cortez was also CIO,Chief Information Officer for the County of San Bernardino and Director of Technology for LAUSD. Mr. Cortez is also Secretary of SHPE-LA Board, an non-profit organization helping support and invest in the future Hispanic Engineers in the USA via STEM programs. President of LISTA, Southern California, Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association (LISTA). Our organization's mission is to empower Latino technological and scientific engagement, broaden awareness of the impact Latinos are currently having on these sectors, and concurrently representing their overall interest within the digital information age.
